Who should apply?
Sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students interested in careers in the media/news & information. Applicants must have at least one professional internship and experience at a college publication is a plus.

How do I apply?
Click here to fill out the application. Consult the description of the internship you’re applying for and send what is needed. Clips, whether links or attachments, should be easily accessible (no paywalls) and easily printable. And once printed, clips should be clear and readable. Is the internship paid?
Yes. The pay for a summer internship is $450 for a 40-hour week. A six-month fellowship is $525 for a 40-hour week. A one-year fellowship is $625 for a 40-hour week. You will not be eligible to receive benefits.

How long does an internship run?
Internships run 10 weeks, May-August. Six-month and year-long fellowships are determined on an individual basis, depending on needs in the newsroom. Contact Karen Peterson, assistant metro editor, at for more information.

What are the application deadlines?
Nov. 1 for newsroom positions. For positions in all other departments, the deadline is Feb. 15. Our internships are competitive so you would be smart to apply well before the deadline.

Where are your jobs located?
They are located on the West Coast of Florida / Tampa Bay. Intern reporters typically are placed in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Tampa, New Port Richey and Brooksville. Business department internships are typically in the St. Petersburg or Tampa offices.

What do I need to do the job?
You must have a laptop and a reliable, personal means of transportation that will allow you to travel within the Tampa Bay market as the work requires.

Is housing provided?
We will provide local contacts for housing opportunities, but the Times does not provide housing.

When will I hear from you?
If you applied for the positions with a Nov. 1 deadline, you will receive an email by mid-January telling you whether or not you have been hired. If you applied for a position with a Feb. 15 deadline, you will hear by early April.
